Gorillatorch Switchback Video and Tent City Launch Party

By | Events, Gorillatorch, New Product Launch | 4 Comments

Last Thursday JOBY introduced Gorillatorch Switchback to the world. You can find out more about what it does and the inspiration for it in this authentically San Franciscan, wind-filled video:

To set the stage for this transformational outdoor lighting product, we launched the product in true JOBY fashion, with a party. Tent City  took place at the the Log Cabin in the Presidio  and was a WILD success – even the rainy SF weather didn’t stop us! The Gorillatorch Switchback made its debut, lighting the venue and the massive Snow Peak tents.

Even Davy Crocket would be proud.

Guests enjoyed cocktails expertly mixed by Rye on the Road while nibbling on delicious bites offered by Nicole LoBue of LoBue Events (seriously these were fantastic).  The interior of the Log Cabin was tastefully curated by Jonathan Siegel of Viracocha SF with a collection of antiques, unique furnishings, art and other assorted rarities from his Mission based store. Riley Johndonnell, a San Francisco/New York based experimental artist, created an art piece inspired by “Nature or things found in Nature”. The two part installation entitled “WILDLIFE”, utilized text based sculptures to explore the double life of our vocabulary for animals, objects as well as our actions within nature.

Pro Team member, Jed Conklin, provided us with amazing photographs to showcase the inspiration for Gorillatorch Switchback.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out, it was a blast!

Patrick Trefz Idiosyncracies Screening at Joby Labs

By | Events, Friends of Joby, Joby Inspired, Office, Photography | No Comments

Last Thursday, Joby was thrilled to host the screening of Joby Pro Team member, Patrick Trefz’s new film Idiosyncrasies. As the latest unveiling of the Joby Inspired: Wall, we also were able to refresh our walls and have added some of his awesome and inspirational surf art to our office for the next few months.

In advance of the event we spent time cleaning up the space and sprucing it up to make it look just right for the intimate event. Heidi and I bonded as we hung pictures and struggled to get it just right (yes, it is harder when the floor is uneven).

And so the event begins….

Eric shoots fabulous shots… which unfortunately will never be seen due to a theft in our office:(. Boo to thieves.

Forrest introduces Patrick Trefz and his beautifully filmed work.

Patrick sets the tone…

…and the film begins!

Some seats are better than others.

Patrick Trefz Debuts New Feature Length Film – Idiosyncrasies at Surfilm Festival in San Sebastian Spain

By | delightful design, FOJ, Photography | No Comments

Spain needs a little loving today (if you don’t know what I am referring to, you clearly haven’t been paying enough attention to the World Cup). And, what is a better way to spread some cheer than with some fantastic art?

The World Premiere for Joby Pro Team Member Patrick Trefz’s feature film entitled “Idiosyncracies” took place at the Surfilm Festival in San Sebastian, Spain on June 11th. This “exploration of unique minds in surfing” peers into the lives of surfing masters including; Richard Kenvin, Andrew Kidman, Lance Ebert, Christian Beamish, Tom, Leeann, Frank and Pat Curren, Bill and Josh Mulcoy.

You can see the trailer to the film below…yes, you will want to watch it multiple times.

In addition to the launch of the feature film, Trefz also mounted an art show showcasing his lucid and beautiful images of surfing and surf culture.

And, if  you weren’t feeling the Spanish love yet, these fantastic images of San Sebastian (one of my personal favorite places) are just gorgeous and so envy-worthy.
