Friday Finds: GorillaPod is in the Center of Major World Events, a Clever Film and Last Minute Gift Ideas

By | Friday Find, Gorillamobile, Gorillapod, Gorillatorch, Press | No Comments

Happy Friday!

What an interesting surprise for us this week when,  the cover of the International Herald Tribune came out with the newly released Burmese Democracy Activist, Aung San Suu Kyi and a yellow original GorillaPod.

This clever film, shot mostly from the biker’s viewpoint is a pleasant way to ease into the weekend. Watch and you’ll understand the title…

With Christmas less than a week away, last minute gift guides are still coming out. Some of my personal favorites are this article in Budget Travel highlighting the GorillaMobile for iPhone 4 and Wired’s Geek Dad Holiday Gift Guy with the GorillaTorch Flare. It’s not often we get paired up with Bacon Wallets and Lego Harry Party.

Friday Finds: Foot tapping worthy videos filmed with Gorillapods and Press for Gorillamobile for iPhone 4

By | Friday Find, Gorillamobile, Gorillapod, iPhone, Press | One Comment

Hello Creactives,

To get us into a swinging weekend mood, I have two great videos filmed with Gorillapods this week. The first one really has a Gorillapod SLR Zoom as the star of its very own madcap adventure movie.

1-Mintue Silent Film from Fatma Al-Nasr on Vimeo.

This video of the cameraman doing his thing during a soccer game comes with a dancing-in-your seat worthy ditty.

Offside – Swedbank Stadion from Niklas Kristensson on Vimeo.

And of course, this week would not be complete without mention some of the amazing press we received for Gorillamobile for iPhone 4; including ZDNET, Engadget Macworld, and Gizmodo. Plus, Gorillatorch Switchback got  a lovely write-up in WIRED who declared “Headlamp + Lantern + Tripod = Sheer Brilliance.” We may blush, but we’ll take the compliment.

For all of you in San Francisco, JOBY will be at GDGT Live tonight, be sure to swing by!

Friday Finds: Cardiac Arrests, Hacks and Horsies

Happy Friday Creactives!

Hanging From the Rafters

Making a defibrillator seem like a pleasant evening activity, this fun all-limbs in perspective of the drum cover of the Madness single ‘Cardiac Arrest’ is clearly enhanced by the Gorillapod mounted from the rafters.

Oh, The Things You Can Do With a Gorillapod

We love seeing innovative uses and not-as-intended uses of our products. The latest appeared on the Wired Gadget Lab Blog as a response to the search for the perfect iPad stand.  Love the action packed, alcohol infused description of what happened next.

I rushed to grab my trusty Joby Gorilla Mobile, pausing only to set down a bottle of cold German beer. Blinking as I moved out of the bright sun and into the cool dark interior of Gadget Lab’s Berlin outpost, I bent the jointed tripod into shape …

Ultimately, the adventure-seeking writer was able to come up with a trusty stand ready for his iPad consuming pleasure.
P.S. While we are on the subject of  iPad’s- Noah wants to make sure the world knows that the best stylus for your iPad is string cheese. Yes, we have a string cheese obsession at Joby.

Friday Finds: Joby Gorillapod Pumps House Music, Gorillamobile Takes to the Skies and Gorillatorch Lights Up the Press

By | creactive, Friday Find, Gorillamobile, Gorillapod, Gorillatorch, iPhone, Press | One Comment

Hello Creactives!

Let’s Get This Party Started

A reliable source tells me this is an awesome track by Swedish House Mafia. While this may not be the best version of it, the Joby Gorillapod walk-on roll is stellar.

Engadget admires Gorillapod Focus and Ballhead X Strength and Flexibility

Yes, it does sound like the Gorillapod is moonlighting as a gymnast, but the review of the super sturdy flexible tripod and ballhead is all good. Check out the Engadget review of the Gorillapod Focus and Ballhead X.

High Flying

Another smart use of the Gorillamobile takes places many feet up in the air, this enhanced cockpit makes for some friendlier – or at least more easily navigable skies. Thanks@egid for the photo!

Joby Gorillapod Tip

This short and sweet Gorillapod tip can be really useful when filming indoors (or at the very least close to a door). The basic premise of this tip, is to use the natural swing and smoothness of a door on its hinges to  pan a space easily and fluidly for filming or taking time-lapse photos.

Flickr Gorillapod Love  Favorite Recent Photo

[Annabanana] recently upload a number of beautiful long exposure night shots of London. The vibrant streams of light captured using her Nikon D40, Nikkor AFS DX 18-55mmF/3.5-5.6G II lens and of course a Gorillapod SLR Zoom brings new life to a familiar view of the London night sky. I particularly enjoy the ghosting of the man in the red parka on the right and the point in the distance where the beams of light begin to curve against the Parliamentary Buildings.

Gorillatorch is Hot for Father’s Day

So, you have less than 3 days to get your act together for Father’s Day and according to many sources, one of the best gift for father’s day is the Gorillatorch and the Gorillatorch Flare. On Wednesday, we were featured as part of the “Best Father’s Day Ever.”  The quality of the video is imperfect but the Gorillatorch does shine (sorry had to go there).

Bed Making Gorillamobile and Gorillacam Style

Ahh, the joys of constructing – Ikea style. This time-lapse video taken with a Gorillamobile and Gorillacam is a study in what putting together an Ikea bed is supposed to be like. For the most part everything goes smoothly, he doesn’t spend hours the way I do hunting for tools which I happen to be sitting on.  Nevertheless the result is pretty entertaining, especially the headless wife inspecting the work at the end. Added bonus, the background music is sure to make you start doing a little dance at your desk…It’s tricky!

Best Gift for Tech Moms

To celebrate Mother’s Day WPIX, a local news affiliate  in New York, welcomed Rebecca Dogin, the Executive Editor from thenest.com, to suggest great last minute gifts for moms. The Gorillapod Magnetic with its adorable wrapping legs and magnetic feet was selected as the Best Gift for Tech Moms. Our little guy was so embarrassed by the attention that  its feet turned red, but I think we’ll all get over it.

Playing it Oh-So-Cool

What do you Joby Gorillapods and George Clooney have in common? Other than being both so ruggedly handsome, of course. Apparently we are both hip enough to appear in the Weekender Version of Urban Daddy.

Pretty Pretty Time-lapse Sky

@andyhadfield makes me jealous with this perfect lapis blue evening sky with the help of a Gorillapod.

Friday Finds – Swagapalooza, Twestival, Press and More

By | Events, Gorillamobile, Gorillapod, Gorillatorch, Photography, Press, Uncategorized | No Comments

Hello Creactives!

It’s Friday and its time to share a little bit of the fun that has been happening around here.

Swagapalooza

Last week a few of us from Joby had the pleasure of attending Swagapalooza, an at times raucous event where companies showcase their products to a gathering of social media greats – and some others. Guy Kawasaki keynoted and a bevy of hard core twitterers joined  in the fun. The live twitter feed made for some “interesting” moments. Joby CEO Forrest presented some of the creative ways Joby products have been used for photography including an awesome shot by our Director of Industrial Designer inside Notre Dame in Paris. Despite rules against tripods, our wily Gorillapod was welcomed into the venerable cathedral, allowing for some great photos even with the low lighting.

Here is the image that was taken inside of Notre Dame and the set-up:

Here is a video of our CEO Forrest speaking:

Twestival

Joby was thrilled to be involved in the San Francisco Twestival event last week, which successfully raised over $10K for Concern Worldwide, an organization which seeks to bring education to the world’s poorest children.  Concern has been implementing innovative programs and solutions for over 40 years. The worthy caused brought together a number of people from the social media to tweet, drink, listen to music and drink some more.

Press

We love the press love…here are some recent hits which make us feel – oh so very happy.

Best title of the week goes to Graphic Design & Publishing Center who wrote an article entitled “You need a tripod…a Gorillapod.” While the title may not be subtle, they certainly get the message across.

Honorable mention from a few weeks goes to this ultra long but very funny title from Cult of Mac;  “iPhone apps weekly digest: The day Mr. Mediocre came to town and got smashed in the face by Gorillacam.”

Other great press clippings this week include a piece on the Gorillatorch for in the Atlanta Journal Constitution and  a piece on the Gorillamobile for Smart Computing.

Gorillacam Makes Your iPhone Camera Awesome

By | Gorillamobile, iPhone, Photography | 8 Comments

Gorillacam iconWe’ve long been known for supporting photographers and for our innovative photography products, notably the Gorillapod family. These days cameras are getting smaller and smaller, and they’re starting to converge with mobile devices.

Gorillacam app for iPhone

Gorillacam app for iPhone

There’s no better example of this than the iPhone, which has inspired legions of “iPhoneographers” and has even become the most popular camera on Flickr!

To support iPhone users and their photography we first launched the Gorillamobile for 3G/3GS, which has rapidly become a bestseller. Today we are pleased to announce that we’re extending our support for iPhone users even further with a FREE camera app!

The Gorillacam is a fast, feature-packed app designed to extend the iPhone’s native camera functionality. Gorillacam adds many features that are unavailable in the basic camera application, including a self-timer, time-lapse, and continuous rapid-fire shooting. You can see the full list of awesome features over here.

The Gorillacam is the perfect companion for the Gorillamobile, making self-portraits, timed shots, low light photography, or getting crazy camera angles a breeze!

We partnered with the amazing folks over at AppTight to create what we feel is one of the best camera apps available. AppTight has built a number of successful iPhone apps, including the popular iCommute SF, and they really delivered for us, and for you!

We’re excited to hear what you think of Gorillacam, so go on over to the App Store and try it out. We take user feedback to heart, so tell us what features you want in future releases, and we might just build ’em!
