Farewell!

By | Office | No Comments

Hello Creactives!

The time has come for me to wish you adieu as today is my last day at JOBY. It has been a great ride and it has been fun getting to know you and being inspired by the amazing things that you do.

Never fear – I am leaving you in the capable hands of Emily (she is the one doing the snorkel) – who already made a guest appearance on the blog last week.

Cheers!

Friday Finds: Airport Shenanigans, Parkour and a Give-Away

By | Friday Find | One Comment

Happy Friday Creactives!

It’s been a good week here in JOBYland … great weather, many a lunch eaten outside soaking up the California sun, and an awesome video filmed by  Pro Team member Jed Conklin.

Let me ask you this: Who, after a long layover, hasn’t wanted to let loose in an airport? These guys show us how it’s done.

And because we think parkour is pretty darn cool, check out this new video from Extreme Sports Belgium.

Oh, how I wish I was as athletically inclined as those two gents. I guess it’s time for me to start training for future JOBY parkour videos.

Running with the outdoorsy theme (I clearly am distracted by the summer weather), GorillaPods helped make these two great photographs possible.

The first was shot with the GorillaPod legs wrapped around the ropes of a twirly playground ride and with a slow shutterspeed. I might be a nostalgic sucker, but I do like playground shots in sepia.
Another spin around the sun...

And in the second, the GorillaPod was wrapped around the head tube of a bicycle and shot with a homemade pinhole camera. As a bike rider, I’ve got to say this photographer has some talent (or at least great balance)!

I love to ride my bicycle

Yep, I think it might be time for me to go play outside. How will you be enjoying the first days of summer? Maybe relaxing by the pool with your iPad. Visit Crave for a chance to win a GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 so you can enjoy your iPad outdoors in style!

GRAND PRIZE

Zach Settewongse

Here is how he did it in his own words:

Making the video took a lot more work than I originally thought. I started planning at 10am and finished at midnight. First I looked at all my stuff lying around for ideas. Then I sketched out the sequence. Next I mounted the iPhone to the ceiling of my garage by the attic hatch so I could still see the screen with my head in the attic. I then started the time lapse and realized I couldn’t do it alone. So my wife helped me and I started again. All the clothing and items were pre-staged just out of frame so I could get to them fast. Then I edited the video in Adobe Premier adding titles and sounds. Sorry for the cheesy music I wanted to make sure I used open source (non copyrighted) midi files.

Friday Finds:Gear, Pro-Team Members and Father’s Day

By | Friday Find, Gorillapod, Photography | One Comment

Happy Friday!

We are going to start this week’s Friday Finds off with something which is just a tad dated but still extremely relevant as it is an interesting look inside the camera bag of Glenn McElhose – known for, among other things, his work on Diggnation and for working with Tim Ferriss & Kevin Rose. This in depth video allows you to go step by step through his gear – which of course, includes a GorillaPod.

Check it out:

Unfortunately, my vacation videos never look quite this good.

And, not to be forgotten …Happy Father’s Day!

It’s time! GorillaMobile Ori and Yogi for iPad 2 Have Arrived

By | New Product Launch | 2 Comments

For months, you have begged, pleaded and  written hilariously-rich statements about your needs for iPad 2 versions of the GorillaMobile Ori and Yogi. Today, your deep yearnings for the hands-free positioning and camera optimizing  benefits of the case + stands: GorillaMobile Ori and GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2 can be fulfilled. Each case targets a different type of iPad user- the Ori is for the power iPad user, while the Yogi is suited for those who use their iPad in a more relaxed and cozy manner. Of course, the toughest part may be deciding what type of user you are!

GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 2

Built for the demanding iPad power user, the GorillaMobile Ori for iPad 2 provides sleek ergonomic positioning all in a protective case and stand. Drawing its inspiration from the folding art of origami, the GorillaMobile Ori is engineered from a superlight German-made aluminum/polypropylene composite used in high-performance cars. This next-generation material allows Ori to be folded into countless positions designed with the needs of the mobile professional in mind.  And when folded back into its folio mode, the Ori delivers lightweight, rigid stability that can easily slip it into your bag for travel to the next meeting. The iPad 2 version of the Ori follows on the amazing success and accolades of the Ori for iPad 1 which won best of show by Beatweek Magazine at CES and was awarded finalist at the IDEA awards by ISDA.

Watch the Ori in action:

GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2

For those iPad users who would rather read and watch videos in the comfort of their bed or on the couch, the GorillaMobile Yogi for iPad 2, stretches and wraps into the perfect position. The limber yet sturdy legs of the GorillaMobile Yogi twist and bend to stabilize the iPad on uneven surfaces – from your lap to the kitchen cabinet! The polycarbonate case with rubber bumper protects your iPad from shocks and falls. Plus, the quick-release clip easily detaches the modular legs, allowing the case and legs to be used in landscape or portrait mode.

PS Lest you think I am exaggerating the hilarious statements that were sent to me while waiting for release of the iPad 2 versions  – this is my favorite one: “My iPad has been grounded for the past 2 months. He wants to go out and play with his friends and he’s mad I won’t let him without a helmet.”
